My MBA Journey at San Diego State University: Adapting During the COVID-19 Era

From Law to Marketing: Redefining My Career Path

Initially pursuing law, I realized my true calling lay in marketing, where I could apply my skills to understand consumer behavior and drive business growth. My hands-on experience with leading brands in hospitality and luxury industries reinforced my passion for strategic marketing, but I knew there was still much more to learn.

Committing to Business School: A Bold Decision

In pursuit of deeper knowledge, I made a significant decision to quit my job and enroll in San Diego State University’s MBA program at the Fowler College of Business. The plan was to refine my skills, build a strong network, and position myself to tackle larger leadership roles in the business world.

Overcoming the Challenges of the COVID-19 Pandemic

Just as I was about to embark on this journey, COVID-19 struck. The pandemic brought unexpected hurdles, transforming the straightforward MBA experience into a crash course on adaptability. Virtual learning, canceled events, and social isolation became part of the new normal. However, these obstacles became the foundation for developing resilience and adaptability—skills that are now essential in today’s unpredictable business environment.

Key Learning Experiences at SDSU

Despite the upheaval, my time at SDSU was invaluable. Professors like Claudiu Dimofte, Miro Copic, and John Francis challenged my thinking and pushed me to develop a broader, strategic mindset. They encouraged me to question assumptions and consider the long-term impacts of business decisions. This academic experience was not just about the curriculum but about evolving into a more capable leader.

The Power of Community: Family and Peer Support

Throughout the program, my biggest pillar of support was my wife. She not only encouraged me to pursue the MBA but continually reminded me of why I started. The unwavering backing of my family and friends was instrumental in helping me balance the emotional and academic challenges brought on by the pandemic.

Building Relationships in a Virtual World

In addition to the faculty, my cohort played a significant role in shaping my experience. Despite the limitations of online learning, we built strong bonds, learned to lead through adversity, and found creative ways to collaborate. These relationships continue to inspire me as I move forward in my career.

Graduation and Moving Forward

Graduating during such uncertain times wasn’t just an academic achievement—it symbolized adaptability, resilience, and an unyielding commitment to growth. My time at SDSU taught me that education doesn’t end with a degree; it’s a lifelong process. I left with a deeper understanding of leadership, business strategy, and the importance of community.

A Commitment to Lifelong Learning

The journey didn’t end at graduation. My MBA experience rekindled a passion for continuous learning, which I plan to carry with me in my career and beyond. This site reflects that ongoing journey—it’s a platform where I can share my work, connect with like-minded professionals, and pursue collaboration. Growth is an ongoing process, and I’m excited for the opportunities that lie ahead.

Licenses & Certifications

Continuous improvement and lifelong learning are essential to stay ahead in an ever-evolving industry. However, it's not enough to rely on experience alone; gaining real-world certifications is crucial to truly understand the tools and channels my team and I use. The following certifications enhance my ability to be a more efficient and effective marketer and leader, allowing me to make informed decisions, implement best practices, and lead teams with a deeper, hands-on knowledge of the technology and strategies that drive success in today's digital landscape.
